Trading Spaces…Digi-Style!

Friday, April 27th, 2007

This week Dani and Shawna Clingerman (of MyLittleScraps.com fame) decided to “shake things up” and they switched creative teams for a week!

So, we Dani Girls got a chance to be Little Scrappie Girls with Shawna and her CT got to play with all of Dani’s fabulous goodies! At the end of the week- the team who has created the MOST pages will win a prize for each team member from their Swap designer.  How fun is that?!?!  Needless to say, we’ve all gone crazy and there are Shawna and Dani layouts flooding the galleries!   I thought I’d share some of them here and let you see all the fun we’ve been having.

Shawna asked us to start with her awesome Capricious Combo Pack, full of gorgeous natural colors and elements.

Here’s how I used it:

Natalie chose Inverted Doodlie Love (a collaboration with Lauren Grier).  So adorable!

Something Old, Something New

Tuesday, April 24th, 2007

I love to shop for new goodies. It’s insane how many CDs and DVD’s I have of stuff that I just had to buy. I’m a huge impulse buyer. If I like it, I buy it because you never know when it might come in handy, but as a result, I’ve got tons of old kits that I’ve never used. The magazines regularly feature articles about taking something old and making it new, so that’s exactly what I did this week.  I took an older Dani kit that I’ve never used….“Sunny Sorbet”, a soft and sweet kit that really doesn’t go with my dirty and grungy boys….and then I combined it with something new “Rainy Days and Mondays” plus added some of my favorite Dani stapes…you know those products you always seem to use over and over again, specifically So Square Stitching, Round ‘n Round Stitching, Say It Word Strips, and Shape Up . I’m in the Spotlight!

Monday, April 23rd, 2007

I guess maybe I shouldn’t be tooting my own horn but ah well…lol.  I received an email from the ladies of Disc Talk Radio that this layout was going to be spotlighted from April 17 to the 23rd.

I was so excited because Crazy Love is one of my most favorite kits this year!  I also want to encourage you to not just think of it as a Valentines themed kit because as you can see you can use it with any pictures that you LOVE!

I also wanted to draw your attention to Dani’s new kit in the Sweet Shoppe Designs store Hop Scotch . I haven’t had time to scrap with it yet so I don’t have any previews to upload but you can definitely check out the Dani’s Girls Gallery for some great inspiration.

That’s all that I have for today…thanks for letting me brag and have a great Monday!

Spotlight Time!!!

I was scanning the gallerys and I came across this beautiful layout that I wanted to spotlight today during our customer spotlight.

I found it at DigiShopTalk by possum.  It is called “today tomorrow and always”

Not So Altered

Wednesday, April 18th, 2007

Well…

My printer died so my altering is a bit limited right now. But I did half of a project! I had an idea for Teacher Appreciation Week (May 6-12) I was planning on giving Sonic gift cards to our preschool teachers but who wants to just hand over a card? I needed a little box/envelope. So I searched my desk and saw a box of gum and was inspired. Yeah- it is the weird things that inspire me. I took the basic shape of the box and made a png shape out of it.

Untitled-1 copy.jpg
To make the little box you will need to duplicate the shape so that you have two. Fill each shape with a different paper and add some embellies. One shape will be the inside and will show when the flap is lifted. The other shape will be the outside.

Print them on cardstock, cut and paste together. Refer back to the png to use the dotted liens as guides to fold. You will have the option of either making a box shape by attaching the front piece to the smallest folded rectangle or lay it all flat and assemble it as an envelope. You can tie the flap down with eyelets and ribbon or cut a small slit to slide the flap into.

Have fun and don’t forget to show your teachers how much you appreciate them!

Here is her LO:

Isn’t it darling? I can definitely see why it was chosen… Great job, Ranie!

Melinda was the winner of the recent Funk It Up contest at Scrapforums… she took part in a 6 week competition, with challenges and bonuses each week… and at the end, she was the winner! Congrats, Melinda!

Dixi was selected to be a member of the ScrapNFonts design team… we are all looking forward to seeing the fun fonts she will be sharing with us! Wahoo, Dixi!

Dani does Deco!

Thursday, April 12th, 2007

Deco edges are one of the current HOT trends. And well, one of my favorite new trends because there ais such a variety of ways deco edges can be done. It’s no surprise Dani was ahead of the game. Did you know she put out deco edged templates called “Shape Up” last fall?! A must have set for your scrapbooking essentials!

Shape Up templates

And I was thrilled to find the Deco frames in the grab bag that have different notebook patterns! So hot! The Grab Bag has been unbagged for those of you who want to see before you buy or you could purchase the elements individually.

dm_paperborders.jpg
Here is how I used these two products in my latest layout, Chocolate Bunny.

LO_chocolatebunny.jpg

One last thing I wanted to point out. The pink paper in this layout is Also from the Grab Bag, Spring Break, and was originally yellow. Do not be afraid to play around with color alterations to meet your needs. Obviously two toned papers are going to change colors the easiest.

I use Photoshop Elements 4.0. In this program you click on the Enhance tab, Adjust Color, then Color Variations. Play around until you find what you like. You can always undo! Sometimes you can get the best affect by turning the paper into black and white first and sometimes it looks best changing it from the color version. Another tip, you might need to tweak the contrast a bit to sharpen the pattern back up after recoloring. I had to do that with this paper once I turned it from yellow to pink.

Make Believe – altered Tiaras & Crowns

Wednesday, April 11th, 2007

My children love playing make believe. They are everything from super heroes and firefighters to puppy dogs and elephants. I decided to give their imaginations a little boost and created some tiaras and crowns. They love pretending to be Kings, a Queen, Princes and a Princess – probably because they know they truly are.

Tiara and Crown preview

This preview was made using Dani’s Sassy Pants elements. I used those and the Sassy Pants papers to make the tiara that Autumn is wearing.
Tiara
I put glitter paint on the little diamonds after I printed. Oh, so sparkly cute!

The boys’ crowns were made using Dani’s Clownin’ Around papers and embellishments. I outlined the diamonds in glow-in-the-dark paint.

Crown

Here is a short, simple tutorial:

Here are the previews for the crown and tiara templates:

The tiara and crown templates are included in the same folder, as layered psd files as well as separated png files. The tutorial is also included. Download here and enjoy. Happy altering and happy make believe!
