Sick Day

Wednesday, May 30th, 2007

Well, I’m not ending my term on Dani’s team on a great note. I’ve been home sick with the flu the last couple of days and today’s blog post totally got away from me. I have thoroughly enjoyed being on Dani’s team. It was a dream come true of mine because she IS one of my favorite designers EVER! And she’s an amazing friend, so it’s been a blast showing off her awesome designs.

I will show off a new project that I had started over Memorial Day weekend (before I got sick). I used Dani’s Rock Star CD Album, which can be found here. It’s been sent to the printer and when it returns, I hope to add some fun paper supplies and bind it up. But for now, you can see a few shots…

Here’s a couple of close-up versions too.

Expand your creativity

Wednesday, May 23rd, 2007

It will be June before we know it and my time as a Dani’s Girl is quickly coming to an end. I have had such a great time creating for Dani! I have learned that Dani’s work is very versatile. Because I have a little girl, I tend to gravitate towards all the girly kits out there. I love to scrap with pink and more pink! LOL I have found though, that I can branch out and work with kits that are more masculine or geared towards boys.

Some recent kits that I have come to love and might be considered “boy kits” are

Under Construction

as well as Rock Star

I love the color schemes on both of these kits but I normally would shy away from them as a mom to a girl. Imagine what I was missing out on! I wanted to share some pages for girls using these kits.

Next up is Rock Star.

See? It’s not so hard to expand your creativity and scrap a great page for your little princess using a “masculine” kit. So, check out these great kits from Dani,HERE and HERE scrap your little girls and share your LO’s here in the comments. Have fun with it!

Gone fishin’!

Tuesday, May 22nd, 2007

Fishin' Grin
Today we went fishin’! I have loved fish ponds since I was a kiddo – you know the kind at small carnivals and fairs, where you put a quarter on the end of the line and get candy or a prize. Well, today we mixed it up a bit. I made this fun sign using Dani’s Rock Star kit and her hand-stitched alpha:

Fish Pond Sign

I trimmed the edges, covered it in Contact Paper and then pinned it to the front of a blanket. I also made some worms and fish. I drew up the little guys in Photoshop and then used the yummy papers from the same Rock Star kit. I also added button and felt eyes using the embellishments from the same kit. Here they are right after printing:
Fish and Worms

And after they were dressed up with ribbons…
Worms

Fish

Those worms look almost too good to eat. :) To make this whole experience a tad educational, I made matching worms and fish, and also tied different ribbons on. So I can ask the kiddos to match up the colors of fish with the worm, or the two matching ribbons. When we were done with that – they enjoyed just fishing – over and over and over. :)
Here’s one last photo of my Joshua with his catch.

Happy Fishin'

Happy Day everyone.

Gettin’ a little sentimental!

Sunday, May 20th, 2007

Gosh, Dixi’s post just got me all teary-eyed! I have been a Dani Girl for a year now, and am not looking forward to my stint here ending… I am pretty sure that none of us are! So, join me on a little walk through memory lane…

The first Dani kit that I ever bought was her very fun Clowing Around. I had specific pictures in mind, and knew as soon as I saw the kit it was the ONE!

Next up in my buying spree was Sassy Pants- which remains one of my favorite Dani kits to date. When I bought it, Maddie was not even a year yet, so I had no idea exactly how fitting that name would be for my little lady! LOL!

And then came my all time favorite… Cabana Boy. Now I do believe that I have strongly recommended this ‘ole standby of mine before, but in the off chance that you have NOT had a chance to check it out already, I highly recommend that you do so now!

Yep, that was all it took for me to be a total Dani addict. I purchased everything the girl made until the day the email came from Dani herself… and I screamed so loud I made Maddie cry! LOL! I’ll save that story for another day! You can check out all of these designs and more at Dani’s Store!

My favorite things!!

Today is probably my last post on this blog before the new Dani’s Girls get ahold of it!!  I have had such an amazing time on this team.  I applied to be a Dani’s Girl when I had just a couple months of experience in the digi-scrapping world, and Dani gave me the chance….I was totally shocked and I’m still very aware of just how lucky I am.  Dani was the biggest reason I applied to be a SugarBabe, and I am so happy that I will continue to have the opportunity to work with her designs!  So with leaving in mind this week, I thought I’d highlight my favorite layout from all of my team members.

I’ll start with Jodie!  What I admire most about Jodie is her graphic style and how she is able to stick with it.  I think flipping through an album of Jodie’s layouts you would feel like it just went together…even though she used many different kits!

This is my favorite layout by Jodie:

Next is Ranie (JulietJoy).  This one is so tough!!  She really has sooo much talent…I wish I could just link you up to every layout in her gallery.  Someday I aspire to be as good as Ranie.

This is one of my favorites:

Next up is Melinda (mmbstaley).  She is one INCREDIBLE altered art specialist.  I am always amazed to see what she comes up with for each kit!

This is one of my favorite altered art pieces she did:

Jacque (crazyscrapper) is out Newletter Editor….she does incredible layouts too!  Her little girl is just the cutest and the photos she takes are nothing short of amazing.

Here’s my favorite: ( I know it’s the last one she did, but it really is my favorite)

On to Robin (RobinForman).  I kinda have this thing for Robin where I tend to show up everywhere she is!  We are on a couple teams together and I also was a guest on one of the teams she is on.  Robin also takes incredible photographs, but what I like most about Robin is she is easy going, funny and cute too!!!

This is my favorite:

Ok now I’m at Angie (chic_mama).  I would say Angie’s style is a little more eclectic and freestylish (is that a word..lol) and a lot like my own.  I think we would get along great together in real life.

This layout of hers just blows me away!

Next is Meg (MegB).  It’s so repetitive to say that each of these ladies are incredible but they really are!!  I love how Meg usually lets the photos be predominant and speak for themselves.

Here’s my favorite by Meg:

Next is Jen (Jen_Beschinski).  Not only is she a great designer…she is an incredible layout artist too.  I really enjoy Jen’s style there is always so much to look at!

Here’s my favorite:

Next up is Lindsay (Lindsay77).  Lidsay is one of my scrapping idols…she is on many teams for many big name designers and it’s no wonder…..that girls got bucket loads of talent!

Here’s my favorite layout:

Next up is Laura (Laura McGee) our own little mommy to be.  She is another designer and scrapper…..how do you fit it all in?  She also rocks some amazing altered art pieces to inspire us!

Here’s my favorite layout:

Ok I think I better shorten this up….I am going to be here all day if I say something about everyone! Here’s everyone I’m missing so far Amanda (aggiefamily), Natalie (Dean1031), Becky (sparklymommy), and Sari (Caridura).  All amazingly TALENTED, sweet, gorgeous women who I have loved to get the chance to work with!

Here’s my favorite by Amanda:

By Natalie:

By Becky:

And by Sari:

I am really sad to have our term come to an end!  I hope to continue to see you all somewhere around digi-land.  It has been a pleasure ladies!

Scrapper’s Block Frustration!

Wednesday, May 16th, 2007

Until yesterday, I hadn’t scrapped in almost three weeks.  Life has a way of overriding the creative process sometimes, doesn’t it?  The worst part for me is that scrapping is a way I work off stress.  So when I’m blocked and can’t scrap, the stress builds, and makes it even harder to be creative!!  Such a frustrating cycle!

Yesterday, I managed to scrape together a couple of hours to devote to finding my way out of this scrapper’s dungeon.  I made myself a list of ways to jumpstart creativity, so I thought I’d share it with you and you can add your own in the comments.

First of all, I’ve been taking tons of pictures lately.  Not all winners, mind you, but just getting back in the habit of taking my camera everywhere and playing with lighting, angles, and taking pictures of little things in my life that I tend to forget because I’m so focused on my kids.  I also handed the camera over to my husband and my mom at times, so low and behold, I’m in some pictures, too!!!  Crazy!  But, there’s nothing like a big batch of new photos sitting on my computer to get my scrapping urges going.

I’ve been reading lots of magazines, too.  Not just scrapbooking ones though, have you checked out your husband’s magazines lately?  Um, okay, not those ones, if he has them, but magazines like Sports Illustrated, Road and Track, etc.  Or cooking magazines?  There are some great graphic layouts that can totally inspire you!  My husband was a trifle upset when he saw that I’d nabbed his newest Popular Mechanics and put all kinds of sticky notes through it, before he’d had a chance to read it.  Too bad!

What worked for me yesterday, though, was a tried and true technique.  Scraplifting.  I am so inspired by all of you out there in digi-land and by the amazing artists lucky enough to be published in scrapbooking magazines.  I scraplifted a layout out of the latest Simple Scrapbooks magazine by Margaret Scarbrough.  It only used five products, and that simple idea really relieved some of the pressure.  Here’s my layout, using Dani’s Under Construction kit:

Just a simple page, but boy did it feel good to get this memory recorded and really play on the computer again!!  So tell me, what are your scrapper’s block solutions?Â
