Clownin’ Around

Friday, September 28th, 2007

Hey, Missy here again and I wanted to write a little somthing about Dani’s colorful ” Clownin’ Around” Paper and Element Pack that  also hit SSD a few weeks back.   Now 20% off at Design by Dani store.  The three of my boys were born in October and November.  So, lately I have been going through birthday pictures and to me this kit just screams Birthday, Halloween or just Clownin Around (like the title says).  It’s full of fun cheery elements that compliment any page.

Here are a few examples done by some of Dani’s CT to show you  how many different ways the kit can be used.

by Justine (bellbird)  Justine interviewed her daughter at age two.  Such a fun sweet page.  A definate keepsake.

Kalli (Kalli)  Kalli came up with a great design that highlighted her darling daughter riding a carousel.

Myself Missy (missys3lilbugs)  Some photos of my son when we attended a birthday party at a place called Just Jump.  It was a wharehouse full of inflatable jump houses.  Super fun!

Melinda (mmbstaley)  This kit is absolutley perfect for Jo Jo.  What a clever idea Melinda had.  Just a perfect touch to her daughters birthday party.

another by Melinda.    Such a fun page.  Mc D’s Rocks!

by Cindy (cindyg)   Cindy’s projects are so great!  What child wouldn’t be proud to wear this fun hat or to receive this special card.

Fall Fashion: Frames

Monday, September 24th, 2007

Hi all, it’s Justine (aka Bellbird) dropping in for a quick element spotlight on frames! They are totally trendy atm so I thought I’d show off some of Dani’s frames and some not so usual methods of using frames on a LO. Dani has done so many great and different frames in her kits – felt, glitter, chalky, chipboard &acrylic; single and multi photo (love the county fair photobooth strip frame!); timeless & unique (that popsicle stick frame in Heatwave really sticks out in my mind!).
I guess what I love about frames is how they automatically bring a focal point to a LO and a finished look to (sometimes unsightly) edges, be it of a photo or some pp – whatever. I also like seeing journalling framed sometimes cos that’s sometimes the focal point, y’know?!

Ok so on with the eyecandy examples:

I love how frames are used as both decorative and functional elements in this LO by Amy Bleser, using Saturday Market kit – the cute blue frame, off the page highlighting the monograms and the repeated empty scalloped frames behind the old polaroid style frame.

This LO by cindys732003 really shows how effective just offsetting or angling a frame can be. I love those felt frames in Dani’s RockStar kit!

And this LO by Melinda is a great example of using frames to highlight a title or journalling.

And I can’t help but show u my fave frame LO I’ve created as a Dani Girl – it uses the Mahalo kit and I used it to frame some of the great graphic pp in the kit, as well as the photo

Pls don’t think I think every LO has to use a premade frame. I love creative framing too, like, without a conventional frame in sight, this LO by Nicole I (Aromachock) really frames & pulls focus to that gorgeous photo well by using a felt matt and stitching

- so on that note, enjoy getting creative & framing your photos & have a great day :)

Spookable Fall

Friday, September 21st, 2007

Hi everyone,

It’s Nicole here and I am so excited to bring you a very special blog post today. I should begin by saying that I am not really into Halloween. I lived most of my life in Australia where Halloween is not really a holiday people celebrate. Now that I live in the US I find myself really trying every year to get into the spirit. Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE dressing my son up in cute costumes, but I would prefer to do that year round. :)

The thing I have come to appreciate more since I’ve lived in the states is Autumn. I love the colours and the pumpkin picking and Apple Cider… oh, and Pumpkin Spice lattes from Starbucks. :) It’s also the most beautiful time of the year in my opinion. Once we hit winter you’ve lost me – but for the entire three months of Autumn I am in heaven.

So why this rant about Halloween and Autumn? Well it’s just my very long intro to Dani’s fabulous new kit that will be available for sale in the Sweet Shoppe tomorrow. I have seen so many Halloween themed kits out there that I am just not interested in because they focus more on Halloween than the season, but this one is different. As soon as I opened it I fell in love with the colours. The rich browns, oranges and greens. Not to mention the adorable eelements like the paper tree and felt pumpkin and leaves. And the little felt ghost may just push me toward a true Halloween layout yet. :)

So, what am I waiting for? I will stop torturing you now with my babbling and show you the previews.

Spookable Preview

Spoookable Close Up

And some eye candy from the Dani’s Girls that show this fabulous kit in action.

This one is mine – It came together so quickly and is now one of my favourites.

From Cindy

From Chantal

From Missy

From Vanessa

From Amy

From Nicole (the other one :) )

You can see all of these Layouts up close and personal in the Dani’s Girls gallery - including full credits for Non-Dani stuff.

Now if that didn’t make you want to run to the Sweet Shoppe tomorrow then I don’t know what will. I mean, seriously, I can’t drag you there. But I can tell you about 20% off for new releases. ;) I love enabling…

Thanks so much for stopping by. And have a great weekend everyone.

Bag Tags

Thursday, September 20th, 2007

Most of us Altered Girls love to get a bit messy on occasion and dive into a many layered project involving paint and glue and whatever else we can find to add to it. You don’t have to get messy to enjoy altered crafts though. DS needed a tag for his trumpet case, and youngest DD needed a tag for the new diaper bag. So, I made my own personalized ones with Dani’s designs and a ‘bag tag’ kit I found at the local discount store in the office supply section. I chose the self-sealing variety, but if you have access to a laminating machine the heat-sealed variety will be more weather-proof. I used Rock Star for DS’s tag and Love Me Tender for DD’s tag.

2007_0914_142853AA-web.jpg

To begin, measure the tag and choose a size that will give you a nice border around the edge so that the edges can seal properly. Design your tag on the computer, print and trim. As I wanted a double-sided tag, I attached the front and back sides together with adhesive after trimming. Place the tag inserts inside the pieces of the tag and seal according to the instructions.

Finally, attach your completed tags to the objects needing labeling and enjoy the compliments as you carry them around town!

Customer Spotlight

Wednesday, September 19th, 2007

Hello everyone! Lots of drama here at my place with a sick little one, so I REALLY need some eyecandy and scrapping time :) Since I am not one to keep things for myself, I decided to share with you one of my fave layouts of late: Cousins, by Line Prado.

Cousins

Isnt it just gorgeous? I absolutely love the border she created! Perfect for the page AND Dani’s kit: Under Construction, one of my all time faves :)

I asked Line to talk a little bit about herself:

My name is Aline Menegassi do Prado, but I am known on the web as Line Prado. I am 27, married 4 years to Thiago and mother to Luigi, my beautiful 3 year old boy. Almost finished a degree in Veterinary but stopped studying for my love of digi-scrap. A passion that started two years ago; when a friend that did paper scrapping and knew there were no stores around where I live introduced me to digital scrapping. It was love at first sight since I was already editing my photos in Photoshop and was in awe with the possibilities of this new art.
Today I see inspiration everywhere, any image, moments, scenes, my son’s games, anything. I write from the heart, let my emotions speak. Quoting a friend “Scrap is to be happy”.
Great to get to know her a little better! You can see more layouts from Line on her gallery here.

Happy scrapping everyone :)

Altered Tuesday – Baby Gift

Tuesday, September 18th, 2007

Hi everyone!

Libby here again with another fun altered Tuesday project! This week I’d like to share a Basic Grey lunchbox that I altered and turned into a baby gift album!

lunchbox.jpg

Supplies -

Plain lunchbox for decorating
Variety of digital papers (I chose papers from Dani’s Old School kit)
Paint (optional)
Mod Podge (with sponge brushes for applying)
Ribbons
Alphabet stickers (optional)

The first thing I did when I started my project was to work out the overall design. I knew I wanted something somewhat generic that my friend could customize to fit her needs. So, I decided to do 6 divider tabs (which came with the Basic Grey lunch pail) for different categories (using the same design for each) as well as a monthly page where she could write highlights of the baby’s month. Pictures would be filed in the tin (as opposed to being glued in an album).

lunchbox2.jpg
lunchbox3.jpg
Once I had a plan, it was time to start altering the tin. I printed my digital papers on plain cardstock and sprayed with a fixative by Krylon to prevent smearing. I chose to paint the rim of my tin a deep brown and then I applied a coat of mod podge over the paint after drying. Honestly, if I had it to do over again, I would skip this step and stick with covering the edge with paper. The paint was messy and it has already started to chip off in a couple of spots.

After my paint had dried, I applied my papers to the tin with mod podge. I added my text with alphabet stickers (though this look could easily be duplicated with alphabets before printing your papers). After everything had dried, I applied a thick coat of mod podge to seal. Finally, I added some ribbons to the handle as a finishing touch.

Overall, I would estimate that this project took somewhere around 15 hours start to finish. It was quite messy and a bit of a challenge at times, but the end result was worth it!

I hope you’ve enjoyed this project! If you have any questions, please feel free to post here or contact me privately.

Scraplift on of Dani’s Girls and win a GC to Dani’s Store!!

Monday, September 17th, 2007

Hi there – it’s Amy with this month’s team scraplift!  I tell you, each month when I have the opportunity to peruse one of my team mates galleries for a fun layout to lift, I am also so humbled by the amount of talent that these girls have!  And challenged to choose which of many layouts I want to lift!  This month the team had a great time lifting Libby, Kalli and Vanessa.  In a minute I’ll share with you the fabulous lifts that Dani’s Girls did! First let me tell you about the prize and “rules” for participating in this months lift!  First, off, this month if you participate in the team scraplift by lifting one of this month’s featured girls and post by midnight September 30th – you will have a chance to win 1 of 2 $5 gift certificates to Dani’s store!  How great is that?  All you have to do is find inspiration within in Libby’s, Vanessa’s or Kalli’s galleries, put your own twist on it, have at least 50% of the designs on your layout by Dani, post here with a link and you’ll be entered into the drawing!  Woo hoo – I’m excited to see which layouts you choose to lift and how you add your own spin to them!

Now, let me show you what the team did this month!

Nicole’s “Water Park” layout is inspired by Vanessa’s Sweet and Sassy layout.

Kalli chose to lift Vanessa’s Sweet and Sassy layout too!  Here is Kalli’s version “Exploring Your Classroom” using mostly Dani’s Saturday Market kit.

Justine’s layout using products from Dani’s “Fall Crush” kit was inspired by Vanessa’s “Alaska State Fair” layout. Justine’s pictures are so cute and they match Dani’s kit perfectly!

Kalli chose to lift Libby’s layout “New Style.”  Kalli’s layout “New Teacher” mixed a variety of kits and elements from Dani for a fantastic combination!

Check out Kalli’s credits here!

I know this post is getting long, but don’t go, I have even more eye candy for you!!!  Cindy took these adorable candid photos of her son playing with his new blocks and lifted Kalli’s “Tunes” layout!

Used Dani Mogstad’s “Under Construction” Kit; Straight Blue stitching (Ultimate Stitch Collection: The Not So Basics) by Dani Mogstad; Painted Cardboard Star – from Dani’s Hard @ Play Kit; File Tab Paper & Red Star from Dani’s MVP kit; Riveted Ribbon, Alpha Blocks – Natalie Braxton; Wrapped Rubber Band – Kate Hadfield; Glitter Paint – Christina Renee; Green Star – Miss Mint; Tied String – Grace Bennett; Fonts – lizzielongstocking, Problem Secretary

Missy also chose Vanessa’s “Tunes” layout to lift!  Here is her fun version using  Dani’s “Clowning Around.”  That is some face painting!

Melissa’s lifted Libby’s “Imagination at Work” layout and developed this fantastic layout titled “Wrapped Up.”

Credits:  Dani Mogstad/Shawna Clingerman’s A Year of Memories August kit; Miss Mint duct tape shapes; Marcie Reckinger peeled and revealed edges and alpha.

Wow!  What a great collection of layouts this month!  Here’s one by Michelle titled “Too Cool” which was inspired by Kalli’s “Unforgettable Moment.”   Michelle used Dani’s Bewitched kit!  I love this layout!

Such incredible layouts team!  Wow!  And lastly, I want to share with you my own layout – it is a lift of Kalli’s ”Magical Smile“ layout.  Kalli’s layout jumped out at me right away and I knew I had to lift it and with exactly which photo!

Thanks so much for visiting today and the awesome layouts my fellow team members have done!  I hope you will join in and lift something from Libby, Vanessa or Kalli’s gallery!  Remember – complete the layout, post here by midnight Septmeber 30th to be eligible for one of the 2 gift certificates!  Again – thanks for stopping by!   Have a great rest of your day!
