Altered Tuesday ~ BOO!
Tuesday, October 30th, 2007Happy Halloween!!! I’ve got a fun altered Halloween project great to hang on the front door to greet all the little ghosts and goblins that will show up tomorrow night.

My supplies for this project include:
- “Scared Silly” by Dani Mogstad and Jacque Larsen
- Wooden Letters (B,O,O)
- Ribbon
- Adhesive
- Cardstock
- Button (or other miscellaneous embellishments)
Here’s a “before” picture of the wooden letters:

To start, I measured the wooden letters and then printed out enough of the digital papers to cover each letter. I also decided which embellishments I wanted to add to the project and printed those out as well. Here’s the layout of objects to be printed, I try to save ink by printing only what I’ll need:

After printing out the sheets, I then cut out the papers and embellishments. To cover the letters, I lay the wooden letter on the pattern paper and trace around it, then cut it out. Using adhesive or a xyron machine, adhere the cut-out onto the wooden letter and then go around the edges of the covered letter with sandpaper or a fingernail file – this will get rid of any excess paper and shape it perfectly to the letter. After the letters were covered I punched holes in the letters to run ribbon through to make a hanging sign. I then added the printed embellishments (witch, ghost, frankenstein and wordart) which I matted onto cardstock and added to the letters. To finish up I added a ribbon bow & button to the top of the project.
As always, we’d love to see any altered projects you have so make sure to link them up in the comments section so we can check them out!
