Altered Tuesday ~ BOO!

Tuesday, October 30th, 2007

Happy Halloween!!! I’ve got a fun altered Halloween project great to hang on the front door to greet all the little ghosts and goblins that will show up tomorrow night.

Boo

My supplies for this project include:

Here’s a “before” picture of the wooden letters:

Boo
To start, I measured the wooden letters and then printed out enough of the digital papers to cover each letter. I also decided which embellishments I wanted to add to the project and printed those out as well. Here’s the layout of objects to be printed, I try to save ink by printing only what I’ll need:

Boo Boo

After printing out the sheets, I then cut out the papers and embellishments. To cover the letters, I lay the wooden letter on the pattern paper and trace around it, then cut it out. Using adhesive or a xyron machine, adhere the cut-out onto the wooden letter and then go around the edges of the covered letter with sandpaper or a fingernail file – this will get rid of any excess paper and shape it perfectly to the letter. After the letters were covered I punched holes in the letters to run ribbon through to make a hanging sign. I then added the printed embellishments (witch, ghost, frankenstein and wordart) which I matted onto cardstock and added to the letters. To finish up I added a ribbon bow & button to the top of the project.

As always, we’d love to see any altered projects you have so make sure to link them up in the comments section so we can check them out!

Dani’s MVP kit is perfect for a party!!!!

Monday, October 29th, 2007

It’s true!

MVP Kit

I was asked to help plan a baby shower for a dear friend that is expecting a baby boy at the end of the year.  Both her and her husband are sport fans, so when asked if I could do the shower invites I knew Dani’s MVP kit was going to perfect fit.

Here are the Invitations:

Baby Shower Invite

She loved the invites so much, that I was asked to create a coordinating Cake Topper for the shower:

The Cake

and here are the little Thank You Notes I created for her:

MVP Thank You Notes

Now I just have to wait 35 more days until there little one arrives and I’ll be getting to put together a little MVP birth announcement!

Have a fantastic week and hope my little goodies with Dani’s MVP kit have inspired you!

More Team Scraplifts!!!

Sunday, October 28th, 2007

There were too many team scraplifts this month to show y’all in one post, so I’m back with more!  If you missed the first post – check out it out here!  The talent on this team is just amazing – let me show you!

Justine found inspiration in Kitty’s fun “New Hat” layout and created her own really adorable layout of her daughter playing with her barbie!

Justine did a great job of combining elements and backgrounds from Dani’s County Fair, Saturday Market and It’s My Party kits.  For additional credits, see her layout here.

Blue and green are some of my favorite colors so when I first saw Melissa’s layout “Worms” I instantly ooh’d and aaah’d!  Melissa’s layout was inspired by Melinda’s fabulous “I See You” page.

Melissa used Dani’s Hard at Play kit as well as a few other elements from other Dani goodies!  Check out the full credits here.  I love the unique placement of the cardboard strip and the wrapped frame!  And of course Melissa’s little boy is just adorable!! :)

Melinda’s soft and sweet “Delighted” layout was inspired by Cindy’s Friendship Book.

I love Melinda’s combination of the pretty purples and black and white photo!  Gorgeous!

Rachelle lifted Kitty’s “She is the Queen” layout for her fabulous “Sun True Paradise.”

The majority of Rachelle’s layout is from Dani’s Mahalo kit.  I love how Rachelle created the fun circles at the top of her layout to mimic the cool circles in the pool!  And the waves – well those are too fun!

Melinda’s super fun “Creepy Food” layout was the inspiration for Michelle’s layout titled “Too Cute to be Scary.”

Credits:   Scared Silly by Dani Mogstad and Jackie Larsen and Dani’s new alpha “Monsters Under The Bed.”

Michelle’s embellishment job is fantastic!  Each time I look at her layout there is another little surprise tucked here or there!  Fabulous!

I have to sneak my own little guy and lift in here!  (I never know where the right place to put my own layout is!)

I lifted Nicole’s “Boys Can Like Flowers Too” layout using Dani’s “Under Construction” kit and Traci Reed’s “Blow Me A Bubble” element pack.

I think Justine wins the “Most Creative Use of A Halloweened Theme Kit” contest!  Her layout is just adorable of her daughter picking peas at night!  And her use of Dani’s new Scared Silly kit is so fun!

Inspired by Nicole’s “Flashy” layout, Justine used Dani and Jacque’s Scared Silly kit as well as a bunch of other goodies from Dani!  Full credits can be seen here.

Thanks so much for stopping in and taking a look at all of the fun lifts and amazing talent of my fellow team members!  One lucky random commenter will win a gift certificate for Dani’s incredible designs at Design by Dani!  So, before you go, make sure you leave a comment!

Have a great day and for those of you still enjoying a weekend – hope it is a good one!

Under Construction – an old favorite

Tuesday, October 23rd, 2007

Hello all! I hope everything is ok wherever you are! I just wanted to highlight one of Dani’s “oldie but goodie” kit: Under Construction. I absolutely love this kit and I think it is perfect for anything, but especially boy pages! It has a fallish feel to it, so I think you can create fall layouts with it and also halloween LOs. If you are not familiar with this kit, here are a couple of LOs from the gallery:

These two stunners by cindys732003, so playful:

and these two by Missys3lilbugs , love the colors on the first one and the awesome hybrid project:

If you don’t have it, you can see you are missing out, right? Need more convincing? Have a look at the gallery here. You can get Snapshots:Under Contruction here or here.

and if you already have it, I think there is plenty of inspiration and opportunities to use it again, don’t you think? ;)

Happy scrapping!

Not so spooky!

Thursday, October 18th, 2007

I dont know if other non-US scrappers feel the same, but this time of year used to scare me because every new kit seemed to be filled with halloween ghoulies and stuff – but now, even though we still don’t do halloween in Australia, I don’t mind the halloween kits so much and I’m gonna share some non-halloween ideas for scrapping with these kits and highlight some of the non-halloween LOs the team have created with some of Dani’s spooky kits!

So let’s take Dani and Jacque Larsen’s collab Scared Silly for starters – some great colours in there for basic girl pages – the pinks and purples with the black; and cute doodled words like princess make it more versatile; and the orange; felty swirls and circley patterns and silly, kooky words make for great pages about loony behaviour! Those lollypops also mean you could make pages that play on the word ’sweet’!
This LO by Jacque Larsen (collaborative designer on this kit!) showcases the sweet and girly look you can produce with this halloween kit!

This LO by melissa is just suh-weet!

and joelsgirl has created another great non-halloween LO with some fun elements!

and I have to show off my non-halloween LO – i even got to use the cute witch freom the kit; i made it into a cute pea by masking out all but the witches’ face!

Moving on …. Be-witched is definitely softer and has such a ‘dream’ and ‘believe’ feel to it – you don’t need to do halloween costume or tradition pages with that! Storybook pages, blowing bubbles and sleeping photos would all work well with this, IMHO!

Missy has definitely shown that sleeping pics work with this kit!

and Melinda has worked the muted colours for a sweet family page!

So there you have it – if you didn’t know just how versatile Dani’s halloween kits could be before, I hope you do now! Happy Scrapping!

Halloween Inspiration

Tuesday, October 16th, 2007

Hi everyone, it’s Kalli here. Halloween has never been as special to me as it is now that I have kids. I’m sure a lot of you can relate to that. This year, in particular, it will be so much fun to scrap those trick-or-treat photos with all the adorably fun Halloween kits out there. ‘Scared Silly‘ by Dani Mogstad and Jacque Larsen at Sweet Shoppe Designs is no exception.

ScaredSillyPreview.jpg

Just look at what some of Dani’s team has done with this kit. First is Jacque Larsen’s sweet ‘Princess Witch’ page. I love the photos, of course, and how she placed the journaling box slightly off the page. The doodled frames are probably my favorite frames from this kit, but I love that there are so many to choose from.

princesswitch_JacqueLarsen.jpg

Next we have Erica’s awesome ‘Cute Monster’ page. I love the multiple frames layered and the word bits along the side. The photo really pops off the page and creates such an eye-catching layout! Dani’s ‘Monsters Under the Bed‘ alpha coordinates with this kit so well, as you see here. Too cute!

LittleMonster-Erica.jpg

Here’s another fabulous page by Melinda Staley. ‘Making Monster Cookies’ really highlights the fun patterned paper and the little Halloween spooks in ‘Scared Silly’. I love the bold title Melinda created using both the alpha from the kit and Dani’s ‘Monsters…’ alpha too.

MakingMonstercookies_MelindaStaley.jpg

‘Scared Silly’ also has some fantastic felt elements as Michelle Filo’s ‘2 Cute to be Scary’ page shows. They remind me of looking at a piece of candy corn on its end. Michelle did an awesome job of clustering these elements and papers. This page is too cute not to see close up!

2cute2bscary_MichelleFilo.jpg

There are a several more pages I wanted to highlight, but in the interest of space and your time today, I’ll end this here. :) Stop by the gallery and check out the many more layouts that our team had a great time putting together. If you’ve had fun using this kit too, link us up here!

Altered Tuesday – Trick or Treat Sign

Tuesday, October 16th, 2007

Hi ladies! Halloween is such a fun time of the year, lots of cool decorations. When I saw Dani’s Monsters Under the Bed I was inspired to create a Halloween sign for our front stoop.

Dee_Sign400.jpg

Materials Needed:

Scared Silly by Jacque Larsen and Dani Mogstad
Monsters Under the Bed by Dani Mogstad
Yard Stake Lollipop 34″ by MPI Wood
Gesso
Paints
Gloss Mod Podge
Cardstock
Pre-scalloped Cardstock
Wiggle Eyes – 6 mm by Westrim Crafts
Glitter paint
Ribbon

Dee_Eyes.jpg

To start, the sign was covered with a layer of gesso. I painted the stake purple and the circle green. When it dried, I placed a pre- cut scalloped cardstock on top and using it as a mask, painted the edges purple. It’s best to go slow and paint from the center out towards the edge. I had to do a few touch ups with the green paint.

Measuring the circle and accounting for the scallops, I composed the sign in Photoshop. The eyeballs were cloned out so I could add actual google eyes later. The sign was printed onto high gloss photo paper, Trick or Treat and all within frame are 1 piece, as well as a sheet of loose characters. I cut the sections out, backing the witch and ghost with cardstock for extra stability.

The entire sign was coated in Mod Podge to seal it, with the sign pieces placed. The google eyes were placed, following the digital kit. I added glitter paint as highlights to areas of the sign. To finish tie a ribbon to the base of the lollipop.

I hope the sign inspires you to get crafty. Have a Great Halloween! :)
