Dani has a new kit coming to the Sweet Shoppe tomorrow and everyone will need to get their Paypal accounts ready!  I’ve seen it described as a sophisticated Easter kit, but it’s so versatile that you could use it for just about anything.

Did I grab your attention yet?  Here’s a little taste of the preview…

And a non-Easter LO I made with it this morning…

So come join us at the Sweet Shoppe tomorrow for this kit’s debut!

Altered Tuesday

Tuesday, February 26th, 2008

Hi everyone :)   Connie here & it’s my turn to share a new Hybrid/Altered project with you!  I found these super cute fabric covered shadow box frames at Michael’s, this particular one was from the Martha Stewart line.

I used Dani & Shawna’s Year of Memories kit for this project.

I simply created a digital layout using the inside measurements of the frame & printed it.  I used my tape runner to adhere the layout to the inside of the frame.  Then I printed a few coordinating elements and cut those out to add to the outside of the frame.  This project took less than 30 minutes to create!  I think this would have looked better if I would have covered the frame with matching paper too, but I’ll have to try that with my next one.

That’s all for now, hope you have fun with this project!  Be sure to link us up if you try one :)

We have a Winner!!

Sunday, February 24th, 2008

Happy Monday everyone! I am here to announce the winner of the February template challenge. I think I speak for everyone here at Girltalk when I say you all really rocked this template. Looking through the ways you each made it your own was so much fun! Check out the links in the comments here.

Our winner is Julie Marie with 36 Things.

I love these pictures and how she used the journaling strips to document the things she loves. I am currently working on my second layout with this template and I may have to lift this for a third! Congratulations Julie Marie!

I also want to take this chance to thank Shannon for creating this awesome template. The next template will be available the first week of March so be on the lookout.

Have a great day!!

Julie Marie dani will be contacting you with your prize!

March Desktop

Thursday, February 21st, 2008

Hey gals! I hope all you girls in the Northern Hemisphere aren’t freezing this beautiful morning. Here in Sabah (Malaysia) we’ve been having cloudy skies for the last two weeks, and when it hit 70 degrees, we donned our long sleeve shirts at my house! I guess it’s all about perspective.

Anyway, you’re not here to listen to me complain about the “cold” weather, you’re here to see some DBD inspiration. Today i have a fun, spring-themed desktop for you. Here’s what it looks like on my computer:

Aren’t those kiddos cute??? I used Dani & Traci’s Love Sprung kit available here.

I just love the purple and blue, plus the alphas comes in three colors. Cool, huh?

Anyway, you can download your desktop here if you like the 1280×800 version and here if you like the 1024×768 version. Thanks for stopping by!

Using your digi supply with kids

Wednesday, February 20th, 2008

I love being surrounded by reminders of my scrapworld, i think that’s how i got into hybrid and altered projects – they bring my digi into my everyday world – i can’t put all my LO’s in shadow boxes and my albums just sit there really and DD can’t really touch those.
So i’ve started making stuff dd CAN touch and use, and because i’m kind of a practical and learn while u play mum, I thought I’d share two of those ideas here today:

FLASHCARDS:
Why did I even think or bother to make them? DD got some (expensive) Dora ones for Xmas and loves them, she loves the pictures and i really believe she is beginning to recognise the words – but she has already bent most of them which makes me freak out! These ones i can print again and only really cost a dollar or two cos they’re just printer ink and paper, and laminating stuff when i get to them. I can also print a second set and use them as a MEMORY GAME if i want. You could do this with any of your digi alpha sets too and you could have alphabet flash cards.

flashcards-shapes-blog.jpg

How’d I make them: I drew a rounded rectangle in Photoshop and duplicated it a few times; drew a few more custom shapes and picked some of Dani’s papers with distinct
common patterns (dd is very into patterns at the moment!) and clipped them to the shape; added some plain text names; printed and cut them out. Papers for shapes from Dani’s Kitchmas Cheer; County Fair; Heat Wave; Snow Bunny and Under Construction kits, all available at designbydani.com
DIGI PAPER DOLLS:
Why: DD love dress ups, whether it’s Barbie or paper dolls and this is a personalised paper doll! & I was a bit over doing the Fisher Price Little People dressup on their site.

screengrab-paperdoll.jpg

How’d I make them: I extracted a full body photo of my daughter (she was on a balance beam at gymnastics), added a white outter stroke (1st image) and made basic clothes for her using Photoshop, saving each file as a PNG and then whenever dd wants to play ‘dress-ups’ we sit at the computer and she chooses from the premade PNG clothes and we drag them into Photoshop and dress our Alyssa doll as if i were creating a LO. The middle doll has a Love Struck outfit on and the stripey dress is made with Love Sprung (buttons from Sleigh Bells Ring). You could also print them, trim them and add a velcro dot to each piece. This could be taken further by making different ‘backdrops’ too – the cloud paper in Love Struck and the tree and leaves in Spookable would make for a great backdrop!

I’d love to hear of any other ways of using digi stuff with or for kids, so please leave a comment with any ideas or links! C ya!

Altered Bag Album

Tuesday, February 19th, 2008

Hello everyone, it is Amber here today to inspire you with a new altered project. I got MY inspiration for today’s project while surfing a 2Peas Gallery for the Paper 2 Digi challenge at SSD.

I had seen many paper bag albums, but I had never made one. It really wasn’t hard to figure out at all. The total project took me a weekend to complete (in between my other activites like cleaning, cooking & taking care of the kids LOL).

Here is the supply list:

  • 3 paper lunch bags
  • 10 digital layouts plus a front & back cover
  • adhesive
  • paper trimmer, scissors, & hole punch
  • LOTS of ribbon to match
  • embelllishents to match

GT-BB.jpg

Step 1 - Take your 3 paper bags and lay them out rotating the open ends

GT-BB-1.jpg

Step 2 - Stack the bags together and then fold in half.

GT-BB-2.jpg

Step 3 – Measure this area to size your digital layouts correctly. For my bags I made my layouts 5″ wide by 5.5″ high. It left about 1/2″ on the width so that I could bind my album.

Step 4 – Punch holes along the folded edge of the bags. I started in the middle and worked my way to the edges. I made 5 holes total. I used my crop-a-dile which punched everything really easily.

GT-BB-3.jpg

Step 5 – Using LOTS of ribbon tie your album together. I used 6 different ribbons and put 3 colors in each hole, but I tied each separately. I trimmed the edges in various length.
GT-BB-4.jpg

Step 6 – After printing your covers and layouts cut them with your paper trimmer.

GT-BB-0.jpg

Step 7 – Attach the layout to the pages using your preferred adhesive. I tired a new adhesive with this project as was not happy with the results. I used Mulit Mono, but I think a dry adhesive like the Xyron or double stick tape would work much better and give a smoother finish to the page.

Step 8 - Embellish!! I used a variety of flowers on the front & back covers from Heidi Swapp and Prima. I attached them with my glue dots. I also added some ribbons to some of the inside pages and some flowers as well.

Here is the finished product!

Till Next Time!

CT Template Spotlight

Monday, February 18th, 2008

As you may know, we have a template challenge on this blog every month. This month’s template was created by Shannon. You can find the original post here. Many of the awesome LO’s done by Dani’s girls have already been shown to you, but I wanted to take a minute and show you two more.

Kellie created this adorable LO of her son.

I just love how she used all her elements and I just love the border around the solid pink.

This is the LO I created for the challenge. I used Dani’s new kit Land of Nod.

If you have not yet finished your template LO or if you haven’t downloaded it, do it now!! Come and play and you may be the winner.
