March Template Winner!

Monday, March 31st, 2008

We had some GREAT LO’s submitted this month for the Girl Talk Template Challenge.  You girls sure do know how to take a template and make it rock!

Thank You to everyone who played along.  I loved looking through your various galleries to see your pages.

I randomly chose Nikki’s LO: Silly Lazy Boy

Isn’t her little Avery a doll!  I love the photographs she chose, they really capture the theme of her LO.  I also love how she choose to use what at first glance seems to be a Valentines Day kit to scrap a LO that is not about Valentines Day at all.  Great page Nikki!  If you would like to see her entire credit list you can find her LO here: http://www.sweetshoppedesigns.com/inspiration/showphoto.php?photo=26533&ppuser=1012  Nikki, contact Dani at Dani@designbydani.com to claim your prize!

Be on the lookout WEDNESDAY for an all new template for April!  Thanks again for all your entries, I look forward to seeing your LO’s next month and also look forward to you continuing to ROCK Dani’s designs!

Happy Monday.

Look at these…

Friday, March 28th, 2008

Since Dani is busily working on some new items for next week’s release (maybe more albums?), I thought today I would show you some of the awesome LOs and projects I’ve noticed in the SSD gallery lately.

Teresa created this adorable layout with an older photo from her past using Bunny Trail.

Digi-gee made this cute little Easter album using Bunny Trail Bracket set.

Tracey did some great layering of color on a white background with this LO using A Very Merry Unbirthday.

And Mikkel used the same kit for a well-themed Mad Hatter’s Tea Party LO.

We hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

April Desktop and A Reminder!

Wednesday, March 26th, 2008

Hello everyone! Before we get to today’s desktop giveaway I wanted to take a moment to give our blog readers a quick reminder. The Altered girls are challenging you to alter a pringles can this month for a chance to win a Gift Card from Dani!! March is almost over so hurry up and post those projects to get entered in the drawing. See the post HERE for more details and to see Justine’s example.

Now onto today’s business. I just loved Dani’s 2 Scoops Collab with Manda Bean “A Very Merry Unbirthday” that is available at Sweet Shoppe Designs.

My daughter just had a birthday and this kit is just perfect for those photos. Since I was inspired by the fun whimsical nature of the kit I made a desktop to match that mood. Here is my example.

You can download the 1024×768 version or the 1280×800 version, whichever you prefer for your screen.

Till Next Time!

Hybrid Tuesday

Tuesday, March 25th, 2008

Hi everyone,  Connie here with my hybrid project of the month.  This time I was attempting to create a memory cube with a twist, I wanted it to second as a pencil holder for Hayden’s desk!

Here is the finished project:

I found some awesome wooden cubes at Michael’s, they come in 4×4 & 6×6 sizes.  For this project I used the 4×4 cube.  Now you will have to pull out the jig saw for this project because the cubes don’t come with a slot for pencils, cook DH a nice dinner & I bet he’ll do it for ya!

Supply List:
Wooden Cube
Adhesive (Modge Podge works great)
Sand Paper
Craft Knife
6 or 7 Layouts printed & cropped to the necessary size (I used 4×4)

I used Dani’s Road Trip Kit & Road Trip Mini Album for the layouts on my cube.

Once you have your layouts created, printed, & cropped decide which one you would like on top.  I chose one with a blank area that wouldn’t interfere with the pencil slot!  You can use a craft knife to cut the slot once your paper is placed & the adhesive is dry.

Adhere your layouts to each side in an arrangement that suits your taste.  Once your adhesive is dry you can lightly sand the edges if you would like your cube to look a little shabby!

Post a link in the comments if you try this project, I’d love to see your results!  That’s all from me today, hope you have a great rest of the week :)

A Very Merry Unbirthday to You

Wednesday, March 19th, 2008

Hi!  Heather here, coming to you from the soggy Midwest.

I have been browsing through the gallery at Sweet Shoppe designs and am loving all the fun uses I have seen for Dani’s new collaboration with MandaBean, A Very Merry Unbirthday.  Here are some of my favorites:

First, from fellow Dani’s Girl Mimi, All About My Coffeemaker.

She made this fun layout for an ADSR challenge.  I was blown away by how perfect this kit was for her.

Next, another ADSR challenge layout, Love Affair by anrobe.

What a fun layout and it is perfect with this kit.

I could not take my eyes off of Lexicam’s Tea Party in the gallery.

This is so creative and what a great extraction!

I love that nmartin1 used the kit to make a great little boy layout, Love this Boy.

Lastly, I want to share my layout Spin Until We Are Silly.  This kit was perfect for some of my favorite photos of my boys riding in the Mad Hatter’s Tea Party at Disney World.

If you have not picked them up yet, don’t forget there are bonuses available with A Very Merry Unbirthday and Bowl-A-Rama by Traci Reed & Dani Mogstad through the end of the week.  Rush on over to Sweet Shoppe Designs and pick them up!

Altered Tuesday -Easy and SUPER easy!!!

Tuesday, March 18th, 2008

Hello everyone, it’s Angie here for another Altered Tuesday.

Did you know that altered and hybrid projects don’t have to be complicated?  Here are a couple of ideas that are:

  • Quick
  • Easy
  • Inexpensive!

Altered tissue boxes – I have spent much of this winter suffering from either flu or cold viruses. So a box of tissues has been an absolute essential for me.  I thought it would be fun to create a little altered project to cheer me up.  For the first I have used Dani’s Bunny Trail Quick Album and for the second I have used the Land of Nod Brag Book.

Project 1 -  Altered square tissue box:

supplies

supplies01

My first tissue box was perfect for altering – because it is a lovely neutral colour, there is no need to paint the entire box or cover with paper.  However, if you are unable to find one that is a suitable colour, simply dis-assemble the tissue box, turn inside out (insides are normally white) and re-assemble or use the original box as a template and create one with co-ordinating cardstock.

To create, I resized my LO’s to fit my box (4 inches square) then printed them and carefully cut each one out. I created 2 slits on each side of each LO (this is where I will thread my ribbon) then embellished each with jewels and flowers. I then threaded my ribbon and tied onto my box.  How easy is this:)

If that isn’t quick enough for you – try this one:

Project 2 – Altered cylinder tissue box:

supplies_02

For this project, I used a lovely cylinder shaped tissue box (Kleenex brand) and again because it is already the perfect shade of yellow, I didn’t need to paint or cover it.  I printed my LOs to fit (the box was slightly larger than a 5×7 photo).  I punched 4 holes in the corner of my LO and then threaded a narrow ribbon to attached, finished with a little bow.  Probably the quickest altered project ever!!!!  The beauty of both of these is that the artwork is removable, so I will be able to replace these, when the mood takes me!

Have a great day :)
