Shrink Plastic? Shrink-Tastic!

Tuesday, April 29th, 2008

Hello there and welcome back to Altered Tuesday! Today I have a simple little project that’s perfect for Mother’s Day. I’ve made some sweet little key ring and bracelet charms, using – you guessed it, Shrink Plastic Sheets. For this project, I used the following supplies:

• Shrink Plastic sheets – both white and clear sheets
• Scallop edged 2 inch circle punch
• Single-hole punch
• Paper trimmer/Scissors
• Digital LOs – Papers and Elements from Dani’s Mahalo Kit and ready-made pages from the Saturday Market layered book.
• Oven – preheated (check with the manufacturer of the shrink plastic you use).

supplies

For the Key ring charms, I simply created my layouts and printed them onto the white shrink plastic (white plastic works best if you using photos in your layout). For the small bracelet charms I created 2 ½ inch square layouts and printed them onto the clear shrink plastic.

Once my layouts were dry, I cut them all out. I then punched my square layouts, using the scallop edged punch. I then punched a hole thru each piece (it is important to do this BEFORE you bake your layouts!).

I then places my layouts on a lined baking tray (I suggest you line your trays with ordinary paper or wax proof paper) . I then placed several sheets of printed paper on top of my pieces to help them stay flat during the shrinking process. I baked these pieces in the oven for the suggested time (this is usually 1-2 minutes). I left them to cool and Voila! There you have it Shrink-tastic!!!!

Lunchbreak Hybrid

Tuesday, April 15th, 2008

This project you can complete in a lunchbreak and because it’s quick, it lends itself to cheap and quick personalised gifts too. It’s a NOTEPAD COVER for a new notepad I bought to record some of the cute kid phrases my DD has been coming out with lately, cos I’m pretty lousey with journalling on LO’s but i figure if I can jot down stuff she says, it should help me journal better.

Supplies:
Digi kit – Dani Mogstad and Manda Bean’s A Merry Unbirthday; frame from Dani’s Rainy Days and Mondays (retired)
Paper for printing
Paper trimmer
Adhesive – I used my Roller Glue and Glue Dot roller
Notepad

1. Measure current notepad cover including the overlap at the back and create your cover design in your photo editing program. Print and trim.

2. Adhere back overlap first and fold over the top edge, following the line of the notepad’s existing cover. – I used the Roller glue in the centre of the cover and glue dots around the edges to eliminate leaky glue coming out the edges and warping from too much liquid glue. You could also use a bone folder or ruler to crease the paper edges before folding and glueing.

3. Enjoy the rest of your lunch break!
