Endless Summer

Wednesday, July 30th, 2008

Hi and Happy Thursday! Heather here, with a post a little bit late in the day, where has this day gone? Along those lines where has July gone? I have been busy trying to sneak in a few more fun adventures with my boys before they go back to school in just a couple of weeks.

Speaking of Summer fun and the end of July… have you picked up Dani’s Songbird Avenue kit Endless Summer?

It is gorgeous and benefits a good cause, the S.A.F.E. House. Tomorrow is the last day you can purchase it from Songbird Avenue. While you are there check out their blog, Dani has whipped a coordinating freebie.

Thanks for checking in and Happy Scrapping!

Altered Chipboard Tag Wall Sign

Tuesday, July 29th, 2008

When I saw this kit from Dani called Two Straws, I knew I needed to make something for a friend that loves ice cream!

Here’s the Wall Sign I came up with using the quote “Life’s Hard. Ice Cream Helps”

What I used for supplies:

  • 2 Straws Mega Kit by Dani, Shawna & Traci

  • Provo Craft Large Chipboard Tag (5 x 8.5 inches)
  • Crop-a-dile
  • Eyelet Ribbon to hang it with
  • Jolees Flower Sticker
  • Making Memories Paper Flower
  • Cats Eye Ink
  • Thickers Glitter Alpha
  • Xyron Cheetah Adhesive
  • Glue Dots
  • Craft Knife
  • Staples Photo Supreme Matte Paper

First, I measured the chipboard and made a digital layout that was a bit larger so I had room to trim after I glued it on.

Once I printed the layout and adhered it with my Xyron Cheetah, I used my craft knife to trim the excess.

Then I punched a hole and set the eyelet with my crop-a-dile.

Here’s after I inked the edges, added the flowers (I used glue dots) and alpha.

Last thing… Hang with a ribbon and enjoy some ice cream!

I Scream You Scream…

Monday, July 28th, 2008

We all scream for ice cream!  Today I’m here to bring you a little fun project that I did with my son.  He’s 3 so I had to do most of the cutting and such, older kids can probably do it themselves.

I used the Triple Dip – 2 Straws that Dani created with Traci Reed and Shawna Clingerman to make a cute little game for my little guy.

I used various shapes to create scoops of ice cream and a cone.  Then I clipped the different papers to the shapes and added some color words and numbers.  After printing I cut them out and he helped me assemble the game.  I used metal washers adhered to a piece of cardstock and then put magnets on the backs of the scoops.  I also enlarged the hat from the kit, printed it twice, and stapled it for him to wear.   You may need to add some extending pieces of paper if you print this on 8.5×11 paper for older kids.  As a last step I printed out some of the Guest Checks in the kit for him to be able to “take my order”.

When it was all said and done we played all morning with me ordering what kind of ice cream cone I wanted and then he would put it together.  The “1, blue, 4, pink” was very good!  LOL!

We spent the rest of the morning making ice cream in a bag.  It was a very simple recipe and he really enjoyed helping measure out the ingredients and then shaking the bag.  But his favorite part was the taste testing.

Here’s the recipe if you’re interested in trying it. (we added some chocolate chips too)

Enjoy!

Shadow Box Calendar

Tuesday, July 22nd, 2008

Hi! Steph (islandmom) here with another Altered Inspiration. :-) This one is so easy with a great end result!! The approximate project completion time is 20 minutes (after your digital layout is completed and printed).

For this project you will need:12×12 printed digital layout, coordinating embellishments (buttons, ribbons, flowers, brads, etc.), adhesive (I used glue dots), 12×12 deep (3 inches or more) shadow box frame, cafe menu marker, and a 12×12 piece of paper or cardstock.

Here is a look at the digital layout I used on this project (supplies for layout are from the Songbird Avenue kit with Dani called Endless Summer). It’s a GREAT cause and one close to Dani’s heart, so check it out!

After printing, I added some embellishments, Bazzil flowers, Memory Makers brads, some buttons, and a Bo Bunny chipboard sticker. You can see that here:

Next, you will need to use the menu marker to doodle some calendar lines. You can use a piece of 12×12 cardstock to draw the lines, spacing them 1 and 5/8 inches apart. Next, place the guides you drew on a solid surface and place the shadow box on top, face down, so you will be able to trace the lines on the INSIDE of the glass. After tracing the caledar lines, turn the frame over and add the date numbers on the outside of the glass. This will allow you to wash the dates off while keeping the grid.

Now, place the layout in the back section of the shadow box (you don’t want it to press against the glass). Put your backings on the frame and you are ready to place the frame somewhere special in your house! :-)

This would also be a GREAT gift to give, along with layouts for each month that can be switched out. Have fun altering!!

Simple Steps to Alter a Box

Thursday, July 17th, 2008

Hey everyone! I got all wrapped up in my real life job and didn’t make it by the blog to post my Altered Tuesday post so today is Altered Thursday!

First Off … here is the super cute project that I have for you today:
Photobucket

This was a plain white cigar/pencil box that I found in the kids craft section at Michaels. I love that it was already white & ready to alter!

I don’t like how my step by step photos came out, but I still wanted to show you, so bare with the grainy photos.

Step 1 – Print out some papers. I printed 2 sheets from Dani’s kit with Songbird Ave, Endless Summer and then a page with some of the elements I wanted to used reduced by about 60% to fit on my box.

Step 2 – Measure your box, and cut the papers. After some trial & error, I ended up with 2 long strips (front & back), 2 short strips (the sides); and a piece to cover the lid, cutslightly bigger to allow room to wrap the front & sides under the lid. I did not cover the bottom or the inside of the lid. You may need a 3rd sheet of paper if you decide to cover those parts.

Step 3 – Ink! I have been loving my ink pad lately and these papers looked great with the edges inked up.

Step 4 – I decided to use Mod Podge to attach my papers around the sides of the box. Remember to go slowly and the use thin layers.
Photobucket

Step 5 – For the lid I positioned the paper so that it was flush against the back edge, and even on both sides. Then I carefully glued it down. To wrap the sides and front I snipped the corners and then folded and glued them down.
Photobucket

Step 6 – I used my x-acto knife to cut out the elements then used glue dots to attach them to the lid, along with some prima flowers. I also cut a 4″ piece of ribbon and made a loop and attached in to the inside of the lid. It makes a little handle to help open the lid.

Love Struck Freebie!

Tuesday, July 15th, 2008

Hello bloggers!  I hope everyone is having a wonderful week, I can’t believe it’s almost WEDNESDAY already.  I’m posting my freebie a little early, because I have a 12 hour shift tomorrow…ewwww, but I sure do love it when it’s payday!

I used one of my favorite all time kits from Dani to make two freebies for all of our loyal blog readers.

Love Struck

I love the colors in this kit.  The turqoise and hot pink mixed with the nuetrals is such a awesome combo.  And the vintage feel to the entire kit is also great.

So here is a preview of the freebies:

and here is the link to grab them for yourselves!

LINKY WINKY DOO!

Enjoy your Wednesday and I hope you all have a wonderful rest of your week!

Hugs,

ShannonG
