Imagi-Nation!!

Tuesday, July 28th, 2009

Hey, hey Girl Talkers!! Leigh here with another installment of Altered Inspiration {Dani-style}!

Have you seen Dani’s new kit? Have you??

It’s fantastic! I mean, truly FANTASTIC!

I can seriously see myself scrapping tons of photos with this kit. My son is a super science-y nerd, so *of course* I have plenty of photos of our science experiments (the successful ones and the failed ones :) , children’s museum explorations and lots of other fun times.

As soon as I saw this kit, I knew exactly what I wanted to make with it: a SCIENCE JOURNAL! So, that’s what I did.

Here’s what you need (MINUS the red-line tape…I didn’t end up using that!!)

I bought a Mead Composition Book at my local Wal-Mart and measured the size. Then I created a layout in my photo editing program (I use Photoshop Elements 6) and created the front cover, the back cover and the tags. I then saved them as JPEG files and printed them on my home computer. I always use Matte Photo Paper and LOVE it!

Once printed, I cut out the covers and tags and I used Mod Podge to adhere the covers to my journal.

I like to use a brayer to seal my covers to the book and to ensure there are no air bubbles lurking under there that will try to cause problems later! Once on, I let the front and the back of the book dry before applying a top coat of Mod Podge. I let the entire book dry overnight before anyone was allowed to put their little sciency-paws on it!

Next, I laminated my tags for durability and rounded the corners to prevent any punctures with the sharp edges (we don’t need that kind of science experiment around here…can I get an AMEN?). I added ribbons from my stash and VOILA…cute tags or bookmarks!

When I revealed the final product, my son was SOOOO excited!

We’ve already got lots of ideas filed under our “Ideas” tab! We’ll just have to see how many we can work on before school rolls around again!

Thanks for hanging out with me for this installment of Altered Inspiration! Please link us up and let us know what other hybrid goodies you make with this AWESOME, AWESOME kit from our resident kit goddess {Dani}!!

Hugs to all!

Leigh :)

Use your Imagi-nation!

Saturday, July 25th, 2009

Dani’s brand new kit Imagi-nation (which is 20% off today only at Sweet Shoppe Designs!) is one of my very fave Dani kits… ever!!  It’s super fun and versatile and is jam-packed with coloful, bright papers and fun, interesting elements.

When I saw the fun papers and elements in this kit, I knew it would be PERFECT for lots of hybrid projects… and my first one is a hybrid mini puzzle for my son.

My two year old son has a new-found love for puzzles and also loves anything with his name on it since he can now recognize his name when he sees it.  In just a couple of hours I whipped up this hybrid mini puzzle using Dani’s Imagi-nation kit – it was so fun and easy!

Supplies:

- Chipboard puzzle – any size, mine is 5.5″ x 4″
- Adhesive
- Xacto-type knife
- Medium grit file

Instructions:
- Measure your chipboard puzzle & design your puzzle (in your program of choice) in that size
- Print out your design on your paper of choice (thinner paper is best, although photo paper will work)
- Use adhesive (dry adhesive, like a Xyron Cheetah, will work better than wet glue) to stick the design to the chipboard puzzle
- Turn the puzzle upside-down, and use your Xacto knife to follow the lines and cute out the pieces – don’t worry, they don’t have to be perfect!
- Use your file to file down any edges that are jagged or uneven.
- Have fun!

Travel kits seem to be everywhere lately. I know for a lot of you, August is the time that you are either getting back from  your summer vacations, or maybe you are just making plans for some before school starts in a month! It made me think about Dani’s travel kit Holiday in the Sun. It’s one of my favorites, and probably the first travel kit I purchased after I went digital!

Happy Campers!!

Tuesday, July 14th, 2009

Sometimes just a few ideas can help make a camping trip more memorable and fun.  Instead of trying to think of inspiration on the spot – why not take a few with you on your next adventure?

I made up some fun “camping cards” and a sweet little felt sleeping bag for them to rest in.  The easily printed 4×6 inch cards can be used for any number of ideas.  I designed five different cards for five categories:  songs, recipes, outdoor games & activities, crafts, and tent/rainy day activities.

These ones are not personalized yet, but I have a few ideas of what to put on them.  :)  One beautiful part is that any number of cards can be made –  three favorite songs (that I always mess up the lyrics on- not anymore!  :)), four recipes, a handful of games, a couple crafts and we’re more than good to go.

Here is a closer look at the cards:

The cards are made with Dani and MandaBean’s fun kit:  Happy Camper.

Here are a few examples of cards ready to take:

Okay, so s’more brownies is not exactly a camping recipe, but it is wonderful for packing along.  It is also good at home when you’re wanting a little s’more fix.  :)

If you would like, download the camping cards here to personalize and take with you.  The two cards directly above are also included.  If you have other categories/ideas that fit your family’s vacationing – by all means, feel free.  Or put recipes on all five varieties and make a camping recipe book.  Just have fun and make some memories.  Then scrap those memories with the coordinating kit, Happy Camper.  just perfect.  Happy camping!!

Happy Card Day

Thursday, July 9th, 2009

I have a couple of shiny new cards to show off to you today – each with a totally different theme.

Do you ever have a friend or relative who is going off on a wonderful holiday, which they have planned and saved for, and feel its just not enough to say ‘have a good time’.  Then try saying it with a card!  My example was made with my son’s lovely teacher in mind, who is off to South Africa for a few weeks during the vacation:

Sunshine card

I used Dani’s ‘The Girls of Summer’, which she designed with Eva Kipler.  The sunglasses are layered – with a little sparkle to make them even girlier – and I added some seed beads and a complementing flower button to the bag, simply because I wanted to!

I liked the holiday inspired images in this kit so much, that I decided to not only include them in the card, but I used them to create luggage tags too, as a mini gift.  I made the images approximately 5-6 inches long, and added lines on the reverse for her to add her addresses.  I laminated them for durability and provided ribbon and cable ties for her to choose how she wanted to attach them to her luggage. They will probably only last one holiday – but I think they make a nice little gift:

Summer luggage tags

I mentioned that my two cards this month were of contrasting themes, well this one is aimed at a young birthday boy, and I am in love with this card…

Dinomite card

What do think – he is rather gorgeous isn’t he?  All the papers, star and perfect alpha are from Dani’s very manly ‘Tough Guy’ and the dinosaur image is by Ellie Lash.  I think that chocolate and orange square patterened paper makes excellent dino skin!

I hope you have enjoyed these cards – as usual full details and credits are to be found in my gallery.

Hope you’re enjoying your summer!,
