Card Packaging

Wednesday, October 28th, 2009

… Is sometimes as important as the cards themselves!

Jill here from Dani’s hybrid girls, and I don’t know about you, but one of my favorite hybrid activities is card-making. I don’t send cards at all (just not that kinda gal and they go rather unappreciated in my neck of the woods LOL) but I love creating them in sets and giving the sets away as presents! That way, I not only get to wow relatives and friends who receive the presents, I sometimes even get a card sent to me (if I’m lucky!)

Now I like a bit of impact when I give gifts, but I’m awful at gift-wrapping, so that best solution for me was to find different creative ways with which I can package my card sets without putting them in a box and doing regular gift wrapping (besides, that’s pretty boring!)

I made this card carrier to hold a set of 8 greeting cards that can be sent for all occasions using Dani’s It’s Elementary kit! The kit has gorgeous warm colors, perfect for both boys and girls and even adults!

Not only that, it worked perfectly with both Kraft cardstock and cream, and when my aunt got it, I thought she was equally amazed with the packaging as she was with the card and had asked me to make her 2 more to give to her 2 sons to store their index card reviewers for school!

Inside of my carrier:

Now that’s packaging in style!

ooooooooo… it’s punkin face time.

Happy *almost* Halloween!  For a little fun twist around here, we used Dani’s Monstrosity kit to create a whole family of lively punkins.

It was so super easy and used a little of my preschool-age children’s creative juices too.  We started out by printing out lots of fun parts of Dani’s kit:

We used stars, buttons, eyeballs, even photo corners for various facial parts on the pumpkins.

I cut the whole pile of fun out and let them choose away.  We also printed a few of the adorable monsters that came in the kit, because they are honestly irresistible!

I also upped the fun by allowing glitter mist and glitter.  Yum!

Here are some faces that my children came up with:

(I just love the gold cheeks, the extra long, turquoise arms, and pert little pink flower on my five-year-old’s pumpkin on the right.  sooo sweet!  I also love the three-sided hat on my three-year-old’s pumpkin on the left – and the fact that the front tiny one looks like a chick.  Adorable!)

And here are the few I created at the same time:

This year, forget the carving or paint – or in addition to – try a different sort of messy fun decorating your pumpkins with a digi-kit, some glitter and lots of imagination.  If pumpkin decorating is not something you do, try cutting out all the fun included shapes, sit down with a few friends and make some silly cards.  They’re sure to make you grin.

*smiles*

p.s.  My post was postponed because of the sickies my family had last week- *bleh*.  The good part is that you don’t have to wait long at all for the next hybrid project idea from another Dani’s girl – enjoy!

November Desktop!

Monday, October 26th, 2009

It’s here! I got all confused with which Monday I was supposed to post this and so here it is – just a few days before November. I hope you enjoy it. I loved Sheri’s layout so much that she did with Dani’s kit “Softly Falling” (available at The Daily Digi) that I lifted it for this month’s desktop. Enjoy the Fall season and all that comes with it!

A little {hybrid} good luck

Wednesday, October 14th, 2009

Hello!  SaraL here with a couple of good luck card ideas to share with you – both with a masculine feel to them.

This first one is made with Dani’s two-scoops collaboration with MandaBean: Happy Camper.

touch wood card

As you can see I used a common place saying for the main focus of the card, and complemented with the wood effect paper and alpha from Happy Camper, I think it works rather well.  I made a basic word cloud behind the ‘touch wood’ sentiment incorporating more common phrases like ‘good luck’, ‘fingers crossed’, ‘best wishes’ etc.,simply to add another layer of interest to the card.  I did this by adding the text to my background paper in Photoshop just as you would normally, and then using the eraser tool to soften the edges.  After adhering to my card I added my final embellishments of frayed string secured with staples and a button.

My second card also uses a common phrase as its focus – and again Dani’s designs inspired the card.  The paper, elements and alpha are all from one of my all-time favourite kits: Imagination

clockwork card

As you may just be able to see, I again added additional text to the central background paper.  It simply says ‘tick tock’ over and over again, plus I replaced the letter ‘o’ in all the words with one of the gear elements, all to emphasise the clockwork theme of the card.  Finally, how can anyone resist that fabulous gear paper that I used in the background layer?  Love it!  I used a felt shape for a final tactile accent to the card.

Ready for something other than a card?  I have to admit to being a Twilight fan, and in preparation for seeing the second movie of the series in November, I am starting to re-read the books (again!).  Instead of using my usual plain old piece of paper, I decided to make myself a proper, themed bookmark.  Silly, but hey, why not?  …and of course I knew the perfect kit for the job: Love Bites by Dani, Traci Reed and Shawna Clingerman:

Love Bites bookmark

I added a little red glitter glue and some black hearts punched out from black glittery card (just because I felt like it!), and then laminated them for durability.

Finally, did you see my Halloween banner made with Dani’s new kit Monstrosity?  This is such a great monster kit – and I have plans for a non-spooky card for next month to share with you, but in the meantime this Halloween decoration was so straight forward to make, I wanted to show it to you again!

Halloween banner

I simply printed out multiple copies of the images I wanted onto card and cut them out.  I then used blue-tack (repositionable, lo-tack adhesive gum) to stick long length of raffia and the images to my wall.  I could have used glue to adhere the stars etc to the raffia and then pins to stick it to my wall, but this was quicker and didn’t leave me with holes in my wall!  The finished banner is about 2.5feet long.  Have a go, and take a pic so we can see what you come up with!

Ooo, one very last thing:  Did you know Dani had been featured in The Daily Digi this month?  You should definitely take a peek!

Enjoy your month!

Halloween Hybrid projects don’t have to be SCARY!

Wednesday, October 7th, 2009

Hey everyone!

It’s hard to believe, but October is here and Halloween is only a few weeks away!  I did my first Halloween hybrid project of the year and wanted to share it here.

This project super simple, and easy peasy!  Halloween may be scary, but creating your Halloween hybrid project doesn’t have to be!  This mini hybrid project is perfect for someone who is interested in hybrid, but intimidated to jump in.  Check out the material list for this mini project: THREE ITEMS!  That’s it.

Hybrid Treat Tag Materials:
- Printed out tag
- Scissors
- Piece of string

Instructions:
1. Create your tag.  I used Dani’s Monstrosity kit. Decide what size you want your tag to be, and design it to scale.  For example, if you want your tag to be 2×3″, start out with a 2.5″x 3.5″ background (to give yourself some space on all sides).  Create the tag and save.
2. Print the tag.   (I printed mine on 80lb cardstock.)
3. Cut out your tag.
4. Punch a hole in the tag using the end of your scissors or a hole punch.
5. Hang the tag, using a piece of string/ribbon, on your treat.

Seriously, it really is that easy!  You can use these tags to personalize treats or simply add your “homemade” touch.  My treats are ghost cake pops.  You can get more info about them here.

Enjoy, everyone!
~ Deanna
