Countdown to Christmas (Advent Calendar *FREEBIE*)
Happy December, Girl Talkers!
Leigh here bringing you my version of the Advent calendars that are oh-so-popular in digiland right now! Of course, mine is brought to you Dani-style!
When I saw Dani’s newest kit, Checkin’ It Twice, my jaw nearly hit the floor! It is FANTASTIC! So cheery and colorful and an all-around perfect Christmas kit! I am using it for many, many projects right now (including bag toppers, my December Daily album, teacher gifts and other fun goodies). If you haven’t seen it, you really should check it out.
Ahhhh…beauty!
So, back to the task at hand.
This Christmas I really wanted to make an Advent calendar for my children. The main purpose in our Advent calendar is to spend a little bit of quality time together each day tackling fun projects, discussing the real reason for the Christmas season, creating beautiful keepsakes and just generally making sweet memories together.
So, here’s what I did.
I created an 8.5×11 canvas in Photoshop Elements and created twenty four (24) 1.5 inch squares. I then decorated them with Dani’s kit and printed them out. I also created a title for my calendar and added a cute Santa or two for decoration.
Once printed, I cut out the squares and labeled the backs with our activities for each day.
Now, I could’ve easily stuck these squares using tacky strips to a 12×12 sheet of cardstock or even just straight on my refrigerator, right? You could do that and be DONE! Easy peasy!
But, come on! You know I couldn’t stop there! I decided to “glitter it up” a bit.
I applied glitter to the numbers and tinsel glitter around the edges of my title. I then mounted my squares on 2 inch red card stock squares, being careful to only apply the adhesive to the area above my writing (so that when we pull off the squares each day, the writing will still be intact).
Once mounted, I applied magnetic tape to the backs of my squares and popped them on a CHEAP cookie sheet ($4 for a pack of 3 at Wal-Mart).
See? How cute is that? And, so easy!
But, I couldn’t stop there, either! I was on a roll!
I drilled two small holes in the top of the cookie sheet and added some ribbon to hang it with! {Side note: EVERYTHING looks better with ribbon!!}
My poor little Santa fell off before I took my picture, but he’s actually stuck on there with magnetic tape, too!
So, that’s it!
Now, just for sticking with me all this way, I made a little treat for you!!

It’s NOT TOO LATE! If you want to make an Advent calendar this year, YOU CAN! And, you can do it EASILY! Just print, cut apart, write your daily activities on the back and stick them up somewhere! That’s it!
